Sex crime committed 24 years ago, not even in this state. i never had any repeat offenses or even arrests until I’ve been recently arrested me over registration paperwork that they say i didnt do on time. its a personal attack on me and my freedom, and i need a lawyer to represent me before they lock me up for a year for a crime that happened 24 years ago when i was at the age of 18. i am now 43 years old and have currently been arrested 7 times for this . paperwork ect being incorrect. Aren’t there any laws that protect me since this was so long ago and did not even happen?

In recent years, there has been a trend among several state jurisdictions to extend the statute of limitations beyond 20 years, particularly for criminal offenses which include sexual offenses committed against minors. The reasoning is that the minor may have had to reach adulthood until they’re able to openly report the case.
However, in a case like this, there are quite a few complications and elements to be observed, particularly for the prosecutor as gathering sufficient evidence for the state to prosecute may be a rather difficult thing to accomplish. Your state laws and several details of this case must be examined by a Criminal Defense Attorney to properly evaluate your defens.
