North Carolina, like many states in the United States, is considering legalizing marijuana for medical use. However it does not appear North Carolina marijuana legalization on a general level will happen any time soon. Decriminalization has taken place, which means marijuana possession on a small scale is not punished excessively. In fact, first time offenses with small amounts of marijuana often get probation which is wiped off the perpetrator’s record after it is completed successfully. The problem that occurs in states where medical marijuana becomes legalized is the fact that it is still illegal on the federal level. While small time users have less of a chance of being prosecuted on a federal level, growers and suppliers seriously risk prison time, even if they are licensed on a state level to sell marijuana for medical use.
