A few years ago, I received a few traffic tickets but never got anything in the mail. Since I didn’t get anything, I figured everything was ok and the charges were dismissed. Should I be worried?

Absolutely. Just because you did not receive notice doesn’t mean everything is ok. Likely, what has happened is your outstanding tickets have been cause for the court to issue an active warrant for your arrest. With an active warrant, if you are pulled over or come into contact with a police officer who runs your name on a police system, you will be arrested and placed in jail until you post bail, or until you appear before a judge if it is a no-bail active warrant. If you learn that you have an active warrant, you should speak with a criminal lawyer to understand your rights and obligations, and perhaps clear your warrant status without having to go to jail.
