I got a new job where my primary task is to recruit new members. I am not exactly sure how this company turns a profit and I am suspecting this may be a pyramid scheme fraud operation. However, I am making some money. If this company gets in trouble, would I get in trouble as well?

Answer: (1)
The penalty for recruiting people to participate into a Pyramid Scheme can be punishable by either a Felony or Misdemeanor depending on the state you live in, along with jail time up to 4 years in prison, state and civil violations, and fines ranging of $5,000-$50,000 of each violation committed. The company may not bear the full liability depending on the way the scheme has been set up. You are more than likely an independent contractor to that company so you may be held fully liable for the crime. If you suspect anything, you should back out of this company immediately. If you have already been charged with a Pyramid Scheme Fraud violation, yet you were unaware, a Criminal Defense Attorney may be able to help you out.
