Absolutely! Just because the District Attorney says don’t worry does not mean you should rely on that information. Chances are, if the District Attorney has been able to file criminal charges against you, there is something of substance which should concern you. Before telling your side of the story, or giving any information, you should immediately request the assistance of a lawyer to ensure that your rights are protected, and that you don’t further incriminate yourself with any statements. If you are out of custody, you should contact an experienced criminal lawyer to assist you. If you are in police custody, you should exercise your right to counsel directly to the judge when appearing before the court, or refuse to answer questions from the DA without a lawyer present.
