Question:

This past weekend I was out at a local bar which is walking distance form my condo. I was pretty intoxicated and had to urinate really badly. I couldn't find a bathroom anywhere nearby and at my irrational state, I ended up peeing in the bushes of someones front lawn. I guess they saw and a police came and arrested me. What type of charges am I facing?

Answer: (1)

Your case involves two elements, indecent exposure and public intoxication. Many states charge urinating in public as indecent exposure depending on the details, while other states regard it as a simple public nuisance where you get a slap on your wrist. Lets hope your state does not consider urinating in public as indecent exposure. If they do, you can be required to register as a sex offender which will surely cause problems for you in years to come.

The public intoxication charge, given this isn't a repeat offense, shouldn't be much to worry about and at worst will be filed as a misdemeanor with a small fine.

Is this your first offense? You should definitely speak to a Criminal Defense Attorney regarding this case. They can help work around the complex state laws and avoid severe charges. A skilled attorney can help you walk away with minor fines and perhaps simple community service.
