Question:

I was recently found in possession of a fake ID while out at the bar, and the owner called the cops on me. What is the fake ID penalty procedure, and should I be worried?

Answer: (1)

You should definitely be worried, because having a fake ID is a crime and can be prosecuted against you. Typically, the penalty for having a fake ID varies state to state, ranging from a misdemeanor charge to a felony charge if used to obtain a credit card or used as an alias to the police. At the very least, you will face a serious fine and the possibility of a short jail sentence. If you are found to be manufacturing fake identification cards, that will result in a felony charge that carries large fines and the certainty of jail time ranging from 1-12 months in jail, if not longer. Being under the age of 21, if you are caught with a fake ID, you will likely also face underage drinking charges that carry community service, fines and possible jail sentences too.
