Question:

I was falsely accused of stalking by my ex-girlfriend. I went to her house only twice after the breakup, both times I was just trying to get my stuff back. I didn’t stalk her, and after she wouldn’t give me my stuff back, I basically gave up- although I did call her a few times a little while later to try again to get my stuff. What should I do?

Answer:

The first thing you should do is stop making any sort of contact with your girlfriend, as that will likely only make things worse and will provide her with additional evidence in her claim against you. You should also contact an experienced criminal law attorney as soon as possible. Your attorney can help you to determine whether the prosecution has a case against you and what you can do to defend yourself against these false accusations of stalking. Stalking has potentially serious legal penalties, and acting quickly when you were falsely accused of stalking can potentially help halt the process of charges being brought against you before the case moves too far into the legal system.
