The penalties for a misdemeanor conviction in Ohio are dependent on the degree of the misdemeanor charged and the discretion of the court where sentences are not considered minimum. The judge may decide to make the sentence intermittent such as a weekend incarceration/work program. In addition to jail time, there will be fines assessed for each degree of misdemeanor.
The court, at the time of sentencing, shall decide whether the defendant must pay for his confinement. If he/she must pay, a bill will be presented; and if it is not paid in the time allotted, a judgment shall be place against the defendant.
In addition to the fines listed above, there may be fees assessed, restitution to be paid, and those amounts added for the cost of incarceration.
While a minor misdemeanor creates no criminal record, the others do. You will want to seek the advice of an attorney if you are facing misdemeanor charges in Ohio, to help ensure you receive the minimum sentence, fine, and other fees possible.
