Will a Petty Theft Go on My Record?
I was recently charged with a Petty Theft and have a court hearing coming up soon. This is my first thing I’ve ever been charged with. Will this Petty Theft Charge go on my record? What happens if I don't appear in court for the hearing?

Generally speaking, petty theft charges are fairly minor and if it is your first offense, the judge may be a little more delicate with the penalties depending on the seriousness and details of what had occurred. If it was your second offense, more than likely you’d be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and it would certainly appear on your record. However, State Laws vary by state which comes into play for Petty Thefts as well. It would be a good idea to hire a Criminal Defense Attorney to help represent you in an effort to avoid having the conviction go on your record as this can cause several implications with employment going into the future. A skilled attorney can be very effective in helping litigate this matter and also in reducing the extent of the penalties.
