Human Rights’ Groups Want to Try Bush Administration for War Crimes

June 23, 2009

After the recent Democratic election to the White House, many civil libertarians and human rights watchdogs have begun to press for an investigation into the Bush Administration’s handling of the War in Iraq. According to these groups, President George W. Bush and his higher-ups are guilty of war crimes and should be tried and potentially punished for their misdeeds.

Some of the crimes, for which the top officials stand accused include: eavesdropping without a warrant and detaining suspects at Guantanamo Bay without due process or a fair trial. However, many believe that Bush and his officials will never stand trial.

This is most likely because of the lack of public support for such a trial. Many feel that holding a criminal proceeding eight years after the alleged crimes occurred is unfair and unconstitutional. Therefore, the possibility of a trial in an American court is very slim.
