Question:

I am a senior Manager at a large company and I was recently bribed by executives to commit an illegal act. I am worried about losing my job if I refuse. Any advice?

Answer: (1)

Whether you offer the bribe, or accept the bribe, the consequences will be the same. It seems as if in this situation, you can be held accountable for two criminal charges. 1.) Accepting the Bribe, 2.) Committing the illegal act as a result of the Bribe. For accepting the bribe, depending on the laws of the state you live in, you'll have to pay a fine (which can depend on the amount of the bribe), serve possible jail time, and it would be considered either a Misdemeanor or Felony offense. Given you work at a large corporation and your execs are bribing you into performing something illegal, this act you speak of will probably come with much more severe consequences. You should consult with an Employment or Criminal Defense Attorney immediately.
