Warrant

There are many different types of warrants in regards to the practice of law enforcement. A warrant is a written document that is signed by a judge that allows law enforcement officers to perform a specific action. There are arrest warrants and search warrants. A warrant can also be issued to a person that ignores a subpoena or fails to appear for court. That type of warrant is called a bench warrant and issued directly from the judge. In order to obtain a warrant, police officers must supply the judge with information pertinent to the person or property they would like to arrest or search. The judge must decide if the police have probable cause to bring a person into custody or perform a search of the property in question. A sneak and peek warrant involves getting permission from a judge to perform a search of a certain property, but does not include letting the officers seize any evidence.
