In the United States, each citizen is legally obligated to fill out an income tax form each year that they earn an income. This form lets us know whether we own tax to the government, or whether the government owes us money. Most of the citizens in this country do the right thing, and file a tax return as they are supposed to. A small subset of people will do all they can to cheat the government by refusing to file their taxes each year. This is known as tax fraud. How can someone report tax fraud when they suspect it is happening? To report tax fraud, there are several options. The Internal Revenue Service is very interested in hearing about these people, and the service has made it very easy for anyone to contact them anonymously to relay this information. There is an online form that can be printed and mailed to them. You do not have to be an anonymous reporter. By giving your name, the IRS will grant an award to you if your report has merit.
