Kidnapping Crimes

Kidnapping crimes are some of the most terrifying for the victims and heartbreaking for the victim’s families. Kidnapping involves a person being taken against their will. And while it seems to be more prevalent in other countries, kidnapping has remained a major crime in the United States. Many of the kidnapping cases are actually “custodial interference.” This is where a non-custodial parent takes the children against the wishes of the custodial parent and the children. This is still considered kidnapping. Kidnapping can be charged in state jurisdictions, but if the victim and kidnapper cross state lines, it becomes a federal case under the jurisdiction of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. State and federal charges carry stiff penalties and many offenders end up spending the rest of their lives in prison. Unfortunately many kidnapping cases don’t have happy endings and kidnappers end up killing their victims, even when the victims are their own children.
