Internet Crime

Internet crime has many names, all of them meaning much the same thing. An Internet crime cam also be called an e-crime, a computer or cyber crime, an electronic crime or a high-tech crime. These names all stand for any crime that takes place whenever a computer or a computer network is used to carry out the crime, and the information accessed on another, different computer is used without permission. This type of crime is definitely a criminal activity. It does not matter whether or not the information accessed on the other computer is modified or lost from its hard drive. What makes this a crime is the access itself. At one time, Internet crime attracted people who called themselves “hackers”. Today, most of the Internet crime that is seen comes from people who belong to organized crime groups. They have noted the ease with which data can be stolen off of the web, and realized that the risks of getting caught while the theft is going on are very small. Whether the offender is an individual or in a group, their aim is the same. They want easy money, and know that the Internet will allow them to search around the world for an easy place to tap into the information needed to get it.
