Indecent Exposure

Someone who exposes the body parts that society normally thinks of as private, and is in a public place around other people when these body parts are exposed is guilty of indecent exposure. This is an intentional act. The person who commits indecent exposure knows exactly what they are doing. They know that by exposing themselves in public, they will shock and insult the people who happen to see them. People who participate in indecent exposure sometimes are sexually excited by the act. There are occasions when people will expose their nakedness deliberately, for rebellious reasons or to make some sort of statement. The laws are different in each state as far as indecent exposure is concerned. What is considered as indecent exposure is very different today from what would have been a serious case of indecent exposure a hundred years ago. This is because society as a whole has changed drastically. In some states, anyone who has been convicted of indecent exposure must register as a sex offender.
