Forgery Arrest

In its simplest terms, forgery is deceiving someone with fake documents, objects or even a fake signature on a check. A forgery arrest could be for: Imitating a famous piece of artwork and trying to sell it as an original; Falsifying information on an application for a government program such as food stamps or welfare; Signing someone’s name to a check and cashing it to get money for yourself without their knowledge. In most cases, forgery is a felony and could result in prison time. Misdemeanor forgery, which involves a value of $500 or less, is punishable by a maximum jail sentence of six months and a fine of $1,000. Most states have degrees of forgery where first degree is a felony that could result in prison time. Third degree forgery is usually a misdemeanor.
