Felony Theft

Felony theft is a crime in every one of the fifty states of America. Any theft over over $500 is a felony theft, and is much more serious than a misdemeanor theft, as more money is involved. A lot depends on where the felony theft took place, as certain states may have different ideas about types of theft. Generally, felony theft sentencing is quite harsh, indeed. There are places where a felony theft or other type of felony crime is punishable by either a jail sentence that lasts at least a year, or by the death sentence. These crimes are normally the type that involves force used against another human being, or else the motive for them is robbery. Repeat offenders seem to get the worst sentences of all for felony theft. There is a law known as the “three strike law” which goes into effect for many repeat offenders of felony theft. When the third sentence for this crime rolls around, the person convicted will have a much longer prison sentence than a first or even a second offender of felony theft.
