Felony Child Abuse

Child abuse occurs when a parent, guardian, or caretaker intentionally perpetrates physical, emotional, or psychological mistreatment on a child less than 16 years of age. Mistreatment is considered commission or omission of acts that result in harm or the threat of harm to the child. This can include neglect or withholding those resources that the child needs to survive. Those resources can include food, housing, clothing, hygiene, education, nurturing, and affection. Child abuse can be classified as a felony or misdemeanor, depending on the degree of injury to the child.
