False Imprisonment

False imprisonment is sometimes misunderstood. What false imprisonment means is that a person or persons is willfully and intentionally confined in an area with no escape. This is done by another person or persons, and there is no legal authority for the confinement. Even if a person is not aware of and upset by the fact that they have been falsely imprisoned by confinement, this would still constitute false imprisonment. An example of false imprisonment that most people can recognize is that of a person who is robbing a bank with all of the customers as his hostages. No physical force has to be used in order to confine a person who has been falsely imprisoned. Anyone who does not have the authority to demand that a person stay in a certain place, yet confines this person anyway is guilty of false imprisonment. Depending on the circumstances, false imprisonment may in fact lead to criminal charges.
