Domestic Violence Court

A visit to domestic violence court is never pleasant for those who must go, simply because of the circumstances that led them there. However, attending court could be considered a step in the direction of a new life for some people. The person who has been accused of domestic violence will generally be arrested and taken to jail. Within a short period of time, generally around 72 hours in most jurisdictions, the guilty party will have to appear in court for an arraignment. This is where the pleas of either “Guilty” or “Not Guilty” are entered. Bail is set during the arraignment, if the court thinks this is wise. There is a chance that the guilty party can be released on his or her own recognizance during the arraignment as well. Normally, a trial date is given at the end of the arraignment in domestic violence court. The next step is the trial, which could well be a few months in the future. The court trial is where the decision will be made as to guilt or innocence.
