The term circumstantial evidence applies to any type of evidence that is collected or presented in a court of law that is not directly bearing on the fact that is in dispute. However, the evidence still offers some type of benefit to the case to prove the facts of the case. Some type of various attendant circumstances is implied which the judge and the jury might be able to infer some type of guilt or some type of fact from the dispute. For example, evidence may point to an individual but it may not be specific enough to be called a fact in the case. Hearsay is one type of circumstantial evidence since it cannot be proven without a doubt. The collection of circumstantial evidence may help to prove the facts of the case.
