Child abuse and neglect is a serious problem in the United States. There are risk factors for child abuse, and if more people were aware of them, it could potentially save many children from harm and even death. When a family with children looks as if they are having a problem securing or paying for housing, food, clothing, medical care, or other things needed for a normal life, this family could be ripe for child abuse and neglect. A family that seems to want to keep away from other people, has anger problems, is stressed out often, has any sort of illness, be it mental or physical, are in danger of the problem of child abuse or neglect. If a family with children contains substance abusers, or parents do not seem to care whether or not their child or children have food, clothing, are kept clean, are kept safe, but basically just overlook them, then this is a family that should be suspected of child abuse and neglect.
