Child Abuse

Child abuse happens when children are either emotionally, physically, or psychologically abused. The four main types of child abuse are physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional/psychological abuse, and neglect of the child. Psychological abuse can consist of severe punishment, which could also be considered physical abuse if it involved hitting and leaving marks on the child. Sexual abuse of a child is self-explanatory. In around 60% of child abuse cases, the parent neglects the child by not providing the child’s basic needs of food clothing, and shelter, failure to keep the child well groomed and teach proper hygiene, and failure to provide the child with affection. Roughly 30% of these cases are for sexual or physical abuse. The remaining 10% of the child abuse cases are for emotional abuse, an outright rejection of the child, constant harsh criticism, or the parent’s refusal to foster and help the child develop and grow.
