Battery is the unlawful and intentional physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature with another person. There are four grades of battery. 1) Simple battery includes any non-consensual harm or insulting contact, and merely necessitates intent to inflict injury. 2) Sexual battery specifies non-consensual touching of the intimate parts of another person. 3) Family-violence battery occurs when the harm or contact is perpetrated upon a family member or one with whom the perpetrator has a current or former familial relationship. 4) Aggravated battery is a felony that involves permanent injury such as the loss of a limb or permanent disfigurement
