Battery

Battery is another term for assault, however the there are differences between the type. Battery is specifically the intentional touching of a person or the application of force on a person, in a harmful or an offensive manner. The person does not have the consent necessary to touch the other person. In assault, the individual may make threats as well, even though no touching is necessary. Assault may be described as the act of threatening battery. In most cases, a battery is proceeded by some form of assault. Battery may be part of both criminal law as well as civil law. There are various types of battery, including sexual battery or other forms. Aggravated battery involves an aggravating factor.
