Arson

Arson is when a person gets malicious pleasure out of setting fires deliberately. Arsonists will burn buildings or wooded areas, without the consent of the owner of the property. Most states have different laws concerning the technical details of arson, but the major legal points are the same, no matter where the fires happen to be. First degree arson is setting fire to a church, school, or someone’s home. Second degree arson takes place when structures that are not occupied or vehicles are burned. Third degree arson is when personal property is burned. It has to be proven in court that the general intent of these fires was willful and deliberate. Arson is a serious offense, and is punishable by law depending on whether it is first, second, or third degree arson.
