Armed Robbery Felony

An armed robbery is always a felony charge, mainly because the crime involves the use of a weapon. The weapon does not have to be a firearm—it can be a knife, rock or nail file. The victim felt threatened by the presence of the weapon at the time of the robbery, which was the robber’s intent. The robbery does not have to result in any actual injury to the victim. An armed robbery felony is a serious crime and almost always results in jail time for the offender. Most states have a minimum prison sentence that ranges from three to 10 years. In Georgia, an armed robbery could be punishable with the death penalty in certain circumstances. After the offender is released form prison, the offender will likely serve terms on parole and probation.
