The 45-year-old man convicted of killing eight people in a nursing home last month was recently indicted by a grand jury in North Carolina. In a rampage, the man killed seven nursing home residents and a nurse at the Pinelake Health and Rehab Center in Carthage, North Carolina on March 29.
Young police officer Justin Garner shot the killer in the chest inside the nursing home and was, himself, shot in the leg. He said that he had ordered the man to drop his weapon three times, before firing. The jury has also indicted the killer, who is currently being treated at a state prison hospital, of attempted murder of the police officer. The officer is recovering at home after three gunshot pellets were removed from his left leg.
Police still do not understand the man’s motive for the brutal shooting, but is known that his estranged wife works at the nursing home. She was not harmed and will be returning to work.
Pinelake residents Tessie Garner, 75; Lillian Dunn, 89; Jesse Musser, 88; John Goldston, 78; Margaret Johnson, 89; Bessie Hedrick, 78; Louise De Kler, 98; and nurse Jerry Avant, 39, died in the attack.
